May Library Events

The annual Bremen Library Plant Sale will be held on May 17 !

The long anticipated big event is coming in a few weeks. The snow is gone, plants are sprouting and some are starting to bloom. The first black flies have arrived. That can only mean that the gardeners in Bremen are starting to look in their gardens to see what plants have survived the winter and can be shared with others. It was a long winter and the snow started falling in December and stayed until the start of April. It was hard on the backs of those faced with clearing a path to the mailbox, but made a cozy protective blanket for all the sleeping plants. With snow measuring in at over 100" deep there was no fear of frost heaving plants from the soil. This all bodes well for the selection of plants that will be available at the plant sale. Whether you are a gardener who plans every inch of your flowering borders and know exactly what plants you want to complete your perfect landscape, or you garden by impulse and will plant
anything that catches your eye, there is a good chance of finding what you want at the Bremen Library sale.
The library is looking for donations, so if you have plants that are beginning to take over your yard someone from the library might be able to help you by digging up plants you are willing to share. Call the library at 529-5572 to get information. Look for a schedule of potting days, when volunteers gather and pot up all the donated plants received.
The plant sale is not the only event planned for May 17. While plants fill the parking lot outside, inside the Library building a used book sale and a sale of baked goods will be going on.
Books are still being accepted for the sale, so if you have been cleaning out bookcases and have books you are ready to part with, the library will be glad to take them off your hands. We ask that you do not give us text books, Reader's Digest condensed books, or books that are musty or damaged. If you like to bake, donations of goodies to sell at the baked goods table will also be welcome.
More information will be appearing as May 17 approaches. But mark your calendar now and we hope to see you at the sale.
