A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

On Wednesday October 17 the Bremen book group will meet to discuss the classic American novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. This book tells the story of a young girl growing up in Brooklyn in the early 1900's. Her mother struggles to support the family because her father is an unreliable alcoholic. The book was written in the 1940's so some of the characterizations may seem
shocking in the modern era of p.c. sensitivity. But the story is a reminder of how life was a hundred years ago in New York. A lively discussion is guranteed. The meeting starts at 3 p.m. and is open to everyone.
