Summer updates

After a long break it's time to get some news out about what's happening at the library.
The summer of 2007 is speeding past with lots of good books published to enjoy when the weather is too hot to do anything but sit in the shade with a glass of lemonade and read.
Without a doubt the most popular read at the library is A Thousand Splendid Suns
by Khaked Hosseini. In this book, as he did with The Kite Runner, Hosseini brings new insight into life in Afghanistan. Through this story of two women connected by marriage to the same man, the reader is introduced to the social mores of another culture. It's a heart breaking story told with the background of the ongoing conflicts and wars taking place in their homeland. After reading this book you will not be able to watch the daily news coverage of the current conflict in Afghanistan without a deeper sympathy for those citizens whose lives are touched by the fighting.
If you are looking for something lighter to pass the time James Patterson's The Quickie, Robert Parker's Spare Change, What Matters Most by Luanne Rice, and Linda Howard's
Up Close and Dangerous might fit the bill. Come in and see what you find on the shelves.
