August Update/September news

August is half over and it finally feels like summer. The Bremen Library has been especially busy the past month as our summer residents visit us to borrow books, movies, and magazines to help pass the many rainy days we had.
The children's summer reading program ended Wednesday August 12 with an afternoon program that included the awarding of certificates to those children who reached the reading goals they had set for themselves at the start of the summer. The weekly programs for kids were lively. The children learned about pirate life from pirate Black Jim Spudcake, they met local author/illustrator Mary Beth Owens, made musical instruments, and printed starfish designs on T-shirts among other activities. At the final program Sarah Kaler read from the book she wrote for children, the kids colored in compass roses and enjoyed a treat of banana splits. Lots of books were borrowed and read.
The calendar for September has started to fill up. The big event will be the return to our Monday evening hours. Beginning on Monday September 14 the library will stay open until 7:00 P.M. to allow school children and working members more time to make use of the resources available.
